Ingredients

1 (14 oz) block of firm tofu, thoroughly pressed and cut into 1-inch cubes

2 tablespoons corn starch

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 tablespoon soy sauce

1 teaspoon chili powder

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon ground cumin

Zest of 1 fresh lime

Juice of 1 lime

Fresh cilantro leaves, for garnish

Sea salt, to taste

Optional: sliced jalapeños for an extra layer of heat

Instructions

Prep the Tofu: Start by draining the tofu and pressing it for at least 15 minutes to eliminate excess moisture. This step is crucial for achieving a crispy texture. After pressing, cut the tofu into 1-inch cubes and set aside.

Coat the Tofu: In a mixing bowl, add the cubed tofu and sprinkle with the corn starch. Gently toss the cubes until they are thoroughly coated. This coating helps to create a crunchy exterior when baked.

Marinate: In a separate bowl, combine the olive oil, soy sauce, chili powder, garlic powder, ground cumin, lime zest, and lime juice. Whisk this marinade until well combined. Add the corn starch-coated tofu cubes to the bowl and gently toss to ensure each piece is evenly coated in the marinade. Allow the tofu to marinate for at least 15 minutes to absorb all the flavors.

Preheat the Oven: While the tofu is marinating, preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to facilitate easy cleanup and prevent sticking.

Bake the Tofu: Arrange the marinated tofu cubes in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes. Be sure to flip the cubes halfway through cooking to ensure they crisp up evenly, resulting in a delightful golden color.

Season: After baking, remove the tofu from the oven and immediately sprinkle with sea salt to taste. For those who enjoy a kick, feel free to add sliced jalapeños on top for an added layer of heat.

Garnish and Serve: Carefully transfer the crispy tofu cubes to a serving platter. Garnish with fresh cilantro leaves for a pop of color and flavor. Serve immediately and enjoy your crunchy chili-lime tofu cubes as a delicious snack or as a protein-rich addition to salads, tacos, or grain bowls!
